Yet another farce from the WPSBA. A desperate attempt to try and fill the vast blanks in the calendar with pretty meaningless matches with paltry money on offer. Most will just use this as practise for the rankers, but id suspect the top players will likely avoid it all together. The WPSBA have missed a trick by not having some minor ranking points at stake here (say up to 1500 for the winner) to give the tournament some real purpose and an incentive for players. Especially those lower down rankings and new to tour where just 6 tournaments to decide your fate is a farce.

The Academy is the only other venue I can think of that would be suitable off the top of my head. There is no other club in the country with good enough tables to host a professional event (I'm presuming the Leeds event will use the 7 match tables and nothing else).

Or maybe WSA will subsidise some clubs re-clothing of tables etc to enable them to host an event, a bit like the old Challenge Tour used to? Clubs like Manhattan in Harrogate and Jesters in Swindon used to be brilliant venues when this was the case.

As I understand it, it will be open to any of the 96 main tour players who want to play. Hopefully it will be an open draw too so that you could get say, Mark Selby against Anda Zhang in the first round.

Hopefully it will become clear soon enough...

so when you say open to all players, will it then be a case of whoever 'wants' to play, rather than all players having their names put in and there will be qualifiers and such. that bit kind of confuses me. I'm hoping to see some of the younger players have a chance to compete and do well too :)

Your guess is as good as mine on that one. Such a sensitive issue that they need to do a thorough investigation though so I can understand the delay.

Still, like you say fingers crossed and in any case it is a positive step.
