I agree, it's easy to say sink or swim but some of the new players are effectively being asked to swim with weights tied around them. It's not impossible for them to do well by any means but it is very difficult.

Hopefully changes will be made, I'm not sure what Hearn has in mind but no doubt we will know sooner rather than later...

It pretty sums up my earlier posts about it being a pressure cooked lottery for the tour newcomers with barring Drago thanks to exceptional form, the other 31 "new" tour players are realistically playing to get in the top 8 outwith the top 64 on the one year list.

With the majority of games being best of 9 and with so much at stake, it seems unfair that these, no doubt highly talented bunch of kids are under so much pressure. Sink or swim some may say?

Personally i say make the qualification for tournaments an open competition for all non top 16 players from round 1, with seeding obviously to reflect rankings etc.

It seems the current set up is a bit stale and a yo-yo with most of the young players going back down to the PIOS straight away and never getting a chance to breakthrough.

The avergae age of the players in the snooker rankings is rising rapidly ive noticed from scrolling down the whole list of players. So many are approaching the 15-20 years on tour mark now, even though they are journeymen in most cases. I sense a re-vamp in the whole system or an opening up of the game like there was in the early 90s is required again to breathe life into the sport again.
