Snooker Career

With Ray Stubbs becoming increasingly busy with presenting the football, the BBC have over the last few years sought to ease the burden on Ray and Hazel Irvine when it comes to snooker. As a result over the last couple of years we have seen Rishi Persad become more involved with the sport, one that while not his first love, he has taken to and presented in a professional manner.

In 2009 with Hazel absent due to the birth of baby Gina, Rishi was involved at the Crucible covering the World Championship for the first time. You can read his blog on the tournament over at the BBC here.

Other Roles

While Rishi enjoys covering the snooker, his first love is horse racing which he has covered for the BBC since around 2003. As he told their website here:

“Racing in Trinidad and Tobago is huge, and there used to be three courses on the island,”

“I was brought up around horses, and one of the first foals my parents trained, called Comaneci, turned out to be rather good.”

“My main pleasure from the sport comes from seeing good horses race,” he says.

“Every year another great horse emerges – and the thrill is being there when it happens.”

Another passion of his is cricket and as such he was also on hand for the BBC to cover the 2007 Cricket World Cup in the West Indies.

Rishi Persad is the most awesome, non specialist sports presenter in the world. He’s made a great job of snooker/horse racing/Olympics highlights and is a man of the night.
