Carter Set To Return At General Cup

Although this week will not see the return of ranking event snooker following the postponement of the Indian Open, there will be action for a few of the professionals at least, as the General Cup is staged in Hong Kong for the sixth time.

While there is a strong line-up across the board, clearly the main talking point is that of the return of Ali Carter, who will play his first professional match since the World Championship on Monday morning against Marco Fu.

I’m sure that I speak for all of us here in the snooker community of fans and players alike that it is brilliant to see him back in action after his treatment for cancer and hopefully we will soon see him on our TV screens at events such as the UK Championship before the end of the year.

You can view all of the latest scores and group standings, as ever, here at snookerorg.

It might only be early July, but today saw the first mid-season seedings revision of 2014/15, following Judd Trump’s victory at the Australian Goldfields Open in Bendigo.

This list will now be used to determine the seedings for September’s Shanghai Masters, which remains one of three events that will not be staged under the increasingly common flat draw structure.

Click below for a round-up of all of the changes to the seeding list, including a change at the head of the rankings…

Wuxi Classic 2014: Tournament Draw Now Available

Robertson

So it begins again. Less than a couple of weeks after Mark Selby’s Crucible triumph, the draw is now available for the first event of the new season, the 2014 Wuxi Classic, which you can view here at snookerorg.

While there are a few notable absentees, Ronnie O’Sullivan, Mark Allen, Mark Davis and Pankaj Advani from the top 64 at first glance, otherwise there is a strong field as Neil Robertson looks to defend the title that he won 12 months ago.

It is unclear as to whether any of the three ‘invitations’ will be taking part (eg Stephen Hendry, Steve Davis or James Wattana), it would appear as though the spaces will be there should they want them, otherwise the places will be awarded to the best performing players at the ongoing Q School events.

The Big 2014 World Championship Preview With Neal Foulds

Crucible copy

The three day gap between the conclusion of the final qualifying round for this year’s World Championship and the start of play tomorrow morning at the Crucible makes the job of previewing the tournament ever-more difficult.

But this year I am hopeful that I have been able to do the tournament justice, thanks to the help of former world number 3, turned highly respected snooker analyst Neal Foulds, who spoke with me this morning to help preview each of the 16 opening round matches and offer his thoughts as to who will be lifting the famous trophy on 5th May 2014…

Allen Closes In On Crucible Spot

HWOarenaDay three at the Haikou World Open saw the last 32 played out to a conclusion, including victories for big hitters such as Neil Robertson (who took his centuries tally to 91), Mark Selby, Ding Junhui, Judd Trump and John Higgins.

As ever here at PSB though, in the early stages of events such as this, my attention has been on those around the various seedings brackets ahead of World Championship cut-off and today saw a number of important results for the top 15 in particular…
