Click below to read how World Series debutants Steve Davis and Ding Junhui got on tonight…
Steve Davis 4-0 Rafal Jewtuch
For the third time today, the Polish entry could do little against his more illustrious opponent as six-times world champion Steve Davis booked his place in the semi-finals with a 4-0 win.
Davis as ever these days wasn’t scoring too heavily, but his superior tactical game and his ability to pounce on Jewtuch’s mistakes with a few 50 breaks ultimately proved to be the difference. Steve will be glad to have been able to play again so soon after his 6-0 mauling at the hands of Ronnie O’Sullivan in the Premier League the other night and things were much better today.
Steve Davis 4-0 Rafal Jewtuch 61-25, 84(48,36)-8, 114(40,50)-0, 59(58)-11
Ding Junhui 4-0 Piotr Murat
In the semi-final Steve will meet the man who beat him in the final of the 2005 UK Championship, Ding Junhui who became the final man through with another 4-0 win over the Polish wildcard.
Ding probably looked to be in the best shape out of all the pros who played today, though he will need to improve on his safety success if he wants to get past Davis tomorrow. Murat put up a decent show but a pot success stat of 72% and a high break of 26 was never going to be enough to get past Ding. Still he gave it a go and did well considering that his practice time must be limited now as he is the Chairman of the Polish Snooker Association.
