Due to issues away from the blog I have not been able to post as often as I would like this week but the snooker world has continued nevertheless. Here is a brief round-up of this week’s action…
First up, this weekend saw the qualifying phase of the World Seniors Championship take place in Bradford and following a thrilling final against last season’s UK Championship quarter-finalist Peter Lines, it was Nigel Bond who came through to book his place in November’s final stages. Also in action this week were fellow professionals Joe Swail, Dave Harold and Tony Drago, click here to see the results in full over at Global Snooker.
Elsewhere another main tour spot was decided as Kurt Maflin defeated Malta’s Alex Borg to win the EBSA European Play-Off final in Romania. Succeeding another man from Malta, Tony Drago, as the event winner, Kurt will now return for the pro ranks for the first time since the 2007/8 season. Other tour places that look to be all but confirmed now are the Irish nomination which should go to Rodney Goggins who has topped the national rankings this season, the Scottish nomination which appears to have been won by James McBain following his 10-3 victory against Ian Wells and also one of the English nominations which should go to Adam Wicheard who has topped the Pro Ticket Tour rankings. Another place will be decided this coming week as the European Championships are played to a conclusion.
