Ding Makes Galway Max

Congratulations to world number nine Ding Junhui who has today made the fifth maximum break of his professional career, during his quarter-final match against Mark Allen at the 2013 PTC Grand Finals.

Coming in the opening frame of the match, the break consolidates Ding’s position in fourth place on the all-time list, standing behind Stephen Hendry (11), Ronnie O’Sullivan (11) and John Higgins (7), and at just 25 years of age, who is to say that he cannot eventually overtake those names on the list?

In terms of prize money, according to World Snooker’s Twitter account, the break will earn Ding £1,000 from the rolling 147 prize for PTC events, as well as the £2,000 tournament high break prize, provided that the break is no equalled this weekend.

The referee for the maximum was Michaela Tabb, marking the fourth maximum that she has officiated in professional competition.
