Amateur Career
Welshman Gareth Allen first played snooker at the age of just three, before joining a local snooker club and playing on a full-size table for the first time at 12.
Playing in junior events, he continued to improve, making his first century break at the age of 16 and ultimately the transition to men’s tournaments as he earned his Welsh debut on his 18th birthday.
At amateur level he competed in several international events, reaching the last 16 of the IBSF World Championship in 2010, before finishing as runner-up to experienced Finn Robin Hull at the 2013 European Championship in Poland.
He also regularly appeared at various European Tour, previously PTC events whilst an amateur, defeating professionals such as Kurt Maflin, Alfie Burden, Andrew Norman, Joel Walker and Nigel Bond.
2014/15 – Q School Success
Having reached the final of Q School event two back in 2012, losing to Paul Davison, three years later Gareth went all the way by defeating David Singh, Lee Shanker, Rhydian Ap Owen, Greg Casey and finally close friend and countryman Alex Taubman to earn a two-year main tour card from the start of the 2015/16 season.
