In the fourth frame of his 3-1 victory over John Higgins, Mark not only won the match with a century, but with a career-best run of 145. This compares with his previous best break of 141 which he made en route to that memorable Masters victory at Wembley in 2008 against Stephen Lee.

He is playing really well at the moment and despite not having had the best of season’s in the ranking tournaments, remains a major threat for every competition that he enters. Whether or not he goes on to take the Championship League title this week at Crondon Park, I expect him to be in the field of seven for next season’s Premier League and would not be surprised to see him go all the way to the final again…
