As many of you may have heard by now, the major talking point from Monday at the ongoing PTC2 event was unfortunately the failed maximum attempt from Barry Pinches which saw him miss the final black for what would have been the second 147 break of his professional career…
At the time I was upstairs watching Dave Harold take on Ben Harrison when at the end of frame three on that table, I glanced over to see Barry on a break of 120, before realising that all of the colours were on their spots and that the maximum was on. Coming down from pink to black however he left the cue ball a little closer to the cushion that he would have ideally liked which just made it missable, though I had still expected him to make it.
Unfortunately however he couldn’t, missing the black by some distance much to the horror of everyone present. Indeed you will see from my video above that I basically threw my camera up into the air in shock!
It is a real shame because Barry is one of the nicest guys on the circuit and it would have been great to see him do it but unfortunately it wasn’t to be and to compound his disappointment he then lost the match in the following frame, 4-1.
