Higgins notches up 400th century

Congratulations to double world champion John Higgins who in his match with Judd Trump in the Championship League has just completed the 400th century break of his professional career…

As Clive Everton said during commentary, I suspect that John will be completely unaware of the landmark but in making an excellent 104 break to secure a 2-2 draw with Judd Trump, he has become only the third player ever to reach 400. It was not a formality either as with the pink tight on the baulk cushion and the black on its spot, he had to play a nice shot to make it and complete the clearance.

While the game is not all about century breaks, Higgins’ position on the all-time list shows you just what a brilliant player he has been and indeed still is. As well as those 400 centuries he is also of course well-suited to a tactical scrap and it is difficult to think of too many players out there who have as strong an all-round game as John has over shown the years. Nearly a hundred centuries clear of Steve Davis in fourth, and 130 clear of Jimmy White in fifth position, it is hard to see John being caught in a hurry…
