Lisowski and Highfield through to Pontin’s Final

Jack Lisowski has today marked his 18th birthday with victories over John Astley and Patrick Einsle to book his place in the final of the first PIOS event of the 2009/10 season. There he will face Liam Highfield who came through 5-3 against Gary Wilson in the other semi-final…

It has been an impressive week so far for man who was recently awarded the Paul Hunter Scholarship for the coming season and tomorrow he will look to put himself in pole position for a place on the main tour in 2010/11 even at this early stage by taking victory in the final. Hopefully from his point of view the experience of being in the Event Six final last season will leave him well-prepared to do himself justice.

Liam Highfield however is another highly rated young talent and will by no means be a formality, indeed I would be at be at all surprised to see him make it onto the main tour in the near future too. Best of luck to both of them tomorrow.

All in all it has been an interesting week so far and looking at the results it is evident just how much strength in depth there is in the competition these days. Even in the first round we saw excellent ties such as Kuldesh Johal v Alfie Burden and Andrew Pagett v Liam Highfield, while further down the line Jamie Jones, the man who reached the third qualifying round of the World Championship earlier this year, found himself whitewashed by another former pro, Kurt Maflin.
