Global-snooker.com is delighted to announce the launch of the 2009 Global Snooker Awards that will take place at The Celtic Manor Resort on October 13th…
The achievements of snooker players from all over the world will be recognised in a suitably lavish celebration of the game.
The Global Snooker Awards will be the only formal award ceremony in the sport and will provide a rare opportunity for players, event promoters, media and officials to get together away from the usual tournament environment.
It will also provide a fantastic setting for some of the snooker wives and girlfriends [SWAGS?] to get together and glam up. Joanne Dent, partner of double world champion, Mark Williams said, “I think it’s great. We haven’t got anything like this in our game so I am really looking forward to it”.
The sporting world in general, as well as the music and entertainment industries have numerous award ceremonies, so it is appropriate to recognise the efforts of all involved in such a popular game.
Global-snooker.com is unique and independent website that provides snooker coverage from all around the world. The Global Snooker Awards will honour a number of different categories, voted on by the public and a panel of experts.
The ceremony itself will be preceded by The Global-Snooker.com Golf Challenge hosted by Welshman Mark Williams.
Teams will be ‘captained’ by invited snooker celebrities and tested around the magnificent Twenty Ten course at the Celtic Manor, twelve months ahead of it hosting Tiger and co. in the Ryder Cup.
34-year-old Williams, presented with an MBE for his services to snooker, said, “Golf is a great way to escape the snooker table and get some fresh air after being inside for hours. Plenty of the boys are really good, Stephen Hendry, Shaun Murphy and John Parrott all play off single figure handicaps.
“I am delighted to host this golf day and hope it will become a regular date in the snooker calendar”.
Both events will have a charity angle, with money being raised for Tenovus – The Cancer Charity and The Paul Hunter Foundation.
Anyone interested in entering a team of three players in the Charity Golf Challenge or reserving a table at the Global Snooker Awards ceremony, can email info@global-snooker.com or visit www.global-snooker.com

This is a fantastic idea why has something like this never been done before. We should celebrate the sport with an awards ceremony every other sport does! Also, it is brilliant that the fans will vote on the winners rather than a ‘panel of experts’.
