Ebdon and Wenbo cleared of wrongdoing

What a day it has been for snooker as hot on the heels of the news that both Stephen Maguire and Jamie Burnett have been questioned regarding their controversial meeting at the UK Championship, there is now news on the investigation into the Northern Ireland Trophy match between Peter Ebdon and Liang Wenbo a year ago…

As reported on Snooker Scene Blog, both Liang Wenbo (who won the match 5-0), and Peter Ebdon have been cleared of any wrongdoing by the Gambling Commission following their meeting in Northern Ireland in 2008. This is good news not just for the two players involved, but also for the sport as a whole which did not need further embarassment following the Maguire/Burnett developments earlier in the day.

Hopefully now both players can put this behind them, though ironically enough should Liang Wenbo manage to beat David Gilbert out in Shanghai, he will be through to meet Peter again in the last 32!
