As reported on the Guardian website (and just about everywhere else it seems), today, the Strathclyde police have now submitted details of their investigation into the last 32 match between Stephen Maguire and Jamie Burnett at the 2008 UK Championship…
Whilst it is good to see some progress being made with this long-running saga, the timing of this development is unfortunate to say the least with the World Championship just two days away, both for Stephen and for the sport as a whole.
It now remains to be seen whether the investigation sees any further action taken by the authorities but hopefully for the sake of all concerned a decision will be made swiftly.
Stephen of course begins his 2010 Crucible campaign on Wednesday against former Grand Prix champion Stephen Lee.

Yeah, the police’s timing is really weird on this… Curious how long this will go on from here.
BTW: Stephen starts against Stephen Lee, not against Maguire.

Haha, well the way Stephen plays sometimes it is almost like he is playing himself more than his opponent.

I hope this won’t stop too many people from watching the world championship. I think this betting affair can be equaly damaging to Snooker then the doping was for bycicle racing. *sighs* I hope very much that the prosecuters won’t file any charges…
