European Players Tour Championship 1: Final Day Updates

The final day of the ongoing EPTC event is underway now in Furth and already defending champion Shaun Murphy is on the march against Andrew Higginson in the round of last 16. Veteran pair Steve Davis and Jimmy White together with young duo Jack Lisowski and Judd Trump may have something to say about that however…

  • First man through to the quarter-finals is young Jack Lisowksi who has impressively whitewashed former Shanghai Masters champion Ricky Walden 4-0 to keep his impressive start to the season going. Next up for him will be another youngster, either Anthony McGill or Judd Trump, the Scot leading their clash 2-1 at the moment…
  • Joining Ant in the next round are Jimmy White and Stuart Bingham, both comfortable winners against Peter Lines and Gerard Greene respectively.
  • The sole remaining amateur in the draw, Daniel Wells is still going strong, 3-2 up on Alfie Burden at the moment…and he takes the sixth to complete a 4-2 victory. Judd Trump is also through, winning by the same scoreline against Ant McGill.
  • Just the two matches still to be completed, Shaun Murphy 3-2 up on Andrew Higginson, Steve Davis 3-2 up on namesake Mark…
  • Shaun is through 4-2, the Davis double are into a decider…
  • My bad actually, Hamilton and Haneveer are still going as well!
  • Breath a sigh of relief Steve Davis fans, your man is through to the quarter-finals, taking the decider against Mark to secure a 4-3 win.
  • Anthony Hamilton completes the quarter-final line-up, good to see Anthony playing well again, he was such a good player at his peak. Quarter-finals now underway…
  • And Shaun duly wins 4-1 to set up that Trump clash.
  • In the other half of the draw meanwhile, Daniel Wells leads Jimmy White 3-1 while Anthony Hamilton has taken two of the first three frames against Stuart Bingham…
  • The news is through that Daniel Wells has won 4-2 against Jimmy White. No news on the final QF though…
  • Until now, as it appears that Anthony Hamilton has come through to take a 4-3 victory against Stuart Bingham to set up a semi with Wells. The winner of Murphy/Trump must surely be a strong favourite to take the title but I wouldn’t rule anyone out just yet…
  • No word on how either of the semi-finals are progressing yet, frustrating I know. I have though updated the provisional rankings here.
  • We have news! Shaun Murphy’s reign as Paul Hunter Classic Champion is over as he loses 4-2 against Judd Trump in tonight’s semi-final. Still no word on who he will play in the final though…
  • It is Anthony Hamilton and he now leads the final 2-1 against Judd, still best of nine…
  • Judd has come back to win in style by four frames to three! Full post to follow…

Steve has never been able to beat Murphy. Amazing run especially to beat Mark Davis and Ali Carter. Given his age to come back this season and already have won a run of matches is exceptional. Hats off to Steve. a tough draw and he has won 4 matches. Well done. Lets hope Jimmy can go all the way!

Well, no worries for Wells. 2500 points (let alone pounds) is really good for the future. He’ll now end up being somewhere around 10th-15th overall, (once WS would actually stop scratching its backside and release an updated list every now and then). And to be honest, it’ll be a difficult job to actually drop below 24th, although possible of course.

Exactly what Hearn wanted, I presume; an amateur player getting through to the televised finals. Fingers crossed and all that.
