German Masters 2011: Clean Sweep for Seeds on Opening Day

Day one of five already completed at the German Masters and it was a good one for the seeded players as all five won their wildcard matches to book their last 32 places. Click below for all of the day’s results…

Day One Results:

Anthony Hamilton 5 – 1 Pavel Leyk
Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon 5 – 3 Tomasz Skalski
Jack Lisowski 5 – 2 Luca Brecel
Nigel Bond 5 – 2 Stefan Kasper
Joe Swail 5 – 0 Hans Blanckaert

See how this affects the draw.

As is evident, the performance of the night came from Northern Ireland’s Joe Swail who raced to a 5-0 victory against Belgian amateur Hans Blackaert, recording a high break of 112, the only century of the evening. He now meets fellow countryman Mark Allen in the last 32.

The Belgian that everyone was interested in though was the much hyped Luca Brecel and as he took two consecutive frames against fellow youngster Jack Lisowski, it looked as though we might be in for a shock upset. Jack though is highly rated himself and with many professional matches under his belt this season, hit back to win 5-2 and earn a shot at Ricky Walden.

In the other matches, Anthony Hamilton and Nigel Bond both won with relative ease while Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon survived a good challenge from Tomasz Skalski to win 5-3.

As an aside, I did put the chat up earlier for a while but with no TV coverage it was fairly quiet. Will give it another go at 7pm tomorrow.

By the way, doesn’t that arena look great?
