Shaun Murphy made it through to the final of the williamhill.com UK Championship in sensational circumstances and at one point drifted to 12/1 to win the match with the sponsors (25/1 to win the tournament). The biggest bet placed on him to win the match from 8-4 down was just £20. Carter was a whopping 1/40 to win the match when he was 8-4 up.
He has become the first odds on favourite of the week to win the tournament with Selby 11/8 and Davis 7/1.
“We thought that there was no way back for Murphy and our punters certainly felt the same way,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. “Now that he is in the final, with the other semi still to play, he is now the clear favourite to win the tournament.”
Tournament winner: 10/11 Murphy; 11/8 Selby; 7/1 Davis

Murphy was superb tonight. Actually, I have never enjoyed Murphy more than now. He is so positive and still has great ability to perform under pressure. I foresee a great final, be it Mark or Mark vs. Supersmurf.

For me, Shaun is the most complete snooker players in the world. He can play offensively, defensively, position play and have a very good shoot technique, almost as good as Ronny. In addition he always shows respect for opponents, whether he wins or loses. Unlike many others, including Ronnie O’Sullivan, who show their good side only when they win. Until 8-4 Shaun had very bad luck, but did not lose his temper, he fought on and came and won the match. Hope Shaun gets to meet Mark Davis, another gentleman snooker player, so we can see two very good players meet in the final. As long as we have Shaun Murphy, Mark Davis, Judd Trump, Stuart Bingham, Ding Junhui, Luca Brecel, Ricky Walden, Mathew Stevens, Dominic Dale, Ken Doherty and Allister Carter to look, I don’t miss Ronny O’Sullivan.

What is it with Ali Carter – one of the most talented players of the generation? He froze in his two world finals, and last night lost not because of the pots he missed, but because of the pots he refused. His lack of confidence must have inspired Murphy who was simply breathtaking in the positive way he won.
