Carter Caps Return With General Cup Glory

CarterMurphy

Congratulations to Ali Carter, who has this weekend completed a fairytale return to professional action by defeating Shaun Murphy 7-6 to win the 2014 General Cup International in Hong Kong…

The two players had met earlier in the week during the initial round robin stages, with Murphy winning 4-1 on that occasion, but today was to be Carter’s day as he hit breaks of 112 and 101, the latter to draw level at 6-6 on his way to victory.

Although the invitational event might not be the biggest event on the calendar, for Ali it is hard to imagine how much this victory will mean to him, as he has defeated a series of the game’s strongest players to return to snooker’s winners circle once again. Indeed just to see him back in action once again is hugely uplifting in itself, but to see him take a popular victory is very much the icing on the cake.

Although Ali will not be in action at the International Championship in Chengdu this month, we hope to see him back on the baize at the UK Championship York in November and if this week is anything to go by, he will be ready to challenge at the Barbican Centre.
