As posted over at snookerbacker.com this morning, yesterday saw the draw made for the 2013 PTC Grand Finals and contrary to the entry list posted recently, defending champion Stephen Lee will not be among the 32-man field, replaced instead by Xiao Guodong, as the next player down on the APTC Order of Merit.
Click here to see the line-up here at PSB, while you can also view the order of play here. The event will again be staged in Galway, starting on 12th March 2013.
I have also amended the latest projected seedings to reflect Lee’s absence, while they will be updated throughout today as the Welsh Open qualifiers continue at the EIS.
As revealed yesterday, the 32 players who have qualified for this season’s PTC Grand Finals have now been confirmed and the list is largely as anticipated during my previous post here.
On the face of it however, it is interesting to see that APTC2 winner and defending PTC Grand Finals champion Stephen Lee has been included in the draw, given the fact that he has not been seen since his Premier League defeat to John Higgins last year, due to his current suspension.
With no news on the resolution of the situation concerning Lee, it remains to be seen whether he will in fact be allowed to take up his place, but we shall see…
Having won the Paul Hunter Classic in Germany earlier this season, world number one Mark Selby has made it a German double tonight with a 4-3 victory against Graeme Dott to capture the ET6 title in Munich…
As the PTC12 event reaches its conclusion, with Tian Pengfei’s semi-final defeat to Order of Merit leader Mark Selby, the 32 players on their way to Galway for the PTC Finals look now to be all but confirmed, subject to clarification as to who exactly will qualify from the APTC Order of Merit.
Also confirmed are the eight amateurs who will earn a main tour card for the 2013/14 season…
So after snooker’s brief shut-down for the festive period, the action kicks off again this Friday with the conclusion of the season’s final PTC event, the European Tour 6 event in Munich.
From there will follow the start of the Championship League next week, ahead of the China Open qualifiers and then the big one, the 2013 Masters…
Snooker’s Players Tour Championship Grand Finals will return to the city of Galway in Ireland in March, with many of the sport’s most famous names to compete for the £100,000 top prize.
Congratulations to Ding Junhui, who tonight ended the run of home hope Anthony McGill with a 4-2 victory to capture the Scottish Open event in Ravenscraig. Earning 2,000 ranking points and the top prize of €12,000, Ding moves himself up to 10th place in the latest projected seedings, as well as climbing up to 6th place in the latest PTC Order of Merit.
Every credit though must go to runner-up McGill, who not only recovered from 3-0 and 51 points down in his quarter-final to defeat Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon, but then recovered from having needed two snookers, to defeat Andrew Higginson in the semi-finals. He fought hard in the final and produced some terrific pots, but couldn’t quite keep the cueball under tight control and take his chances.
Next stop – Sheffield on Tuesday for the final snooker of 2012, the qualifiers for the Haikou World Open from the EIS…
