World Snooker Releases 2014/15 Tour Information

While there might have been more eye-catching stories today with the WPBSA announcing that Stephen Lee’s latest appeal has been dismissed, while the first Q School event of this season came to a conclusion, the news that caught my eye was the announcement of various bits of tour information for 2014/15 from World Snooker.

With confirmation of which prize money will be dropping off at which seedings revisions, as well as a few other interesting snippets of information, the news also means that I am now able to bring you the first latest projected seedings list, not only of the new season, but of the money list era…

Tour Survival 2013/14 – Player by Player (April Update)

A week on from my previous look at the race for main tour survival, we are down to the final tournament of the season, the 2014 World Championship, which begins in earnest on Tuesday.

Following the conclusion of the 2014 Haikou World Open yesterday, the picture is now somewhat clearer as far as the World Championship seedings are concerned, with the identity of the top 16 players seeded through to the Crucible Theatre now confirmed.

Still, there are still changes that can occur during the upcoming Players Championship Grand Finals tournament in Preston, both to the placing of the seeds in the main draw and also the top 64 bracket…

Allen Closes In On Crucible Spot

HWOarena Day three at the Haikou World Open saw the last 32 played out to a conclusion, including victories for big hitters such as Neil Robertson (who took his centuries tally to 91), Mark Selby, Ding Junhui, Judd Trump and John Higgins.

As ever here at PSB though, in the early stages of events such as this, my attention has been on those around the various seedings brackets ahead of World Championship cut-off and today saw a number of important results for the top 15 in particular…

Following the conclusion of AT4 earlier today, there are now just two events to run prior to the final mid-season seedings revision, which will decide who will be at the Crucible Theatre as of right next month for the World Championship and how many matches the rest will have to win if they are to make an appearance at the season’s biggest event.

Rankings Update – The Race To The Crucible 2014

The conclusion of the German Masters marks the fifth mid-season revision of the seeding list and although many eyes will now be on the latest provisional money list, which will determine tour places and come into force at the start of next season, there is one last, crucial cut-off to keep an eye on this year on the points list.

The final, sixth mid-season revision of 2013/14 comes at the end of March, following the Players Championship event currently scheduled to take place in Thailand and the final list following that event will be used to determine the seeding list for the 2014 World Championship at the Crucible.

While there remain five events still to be played between now and that cut-off, the new provisional list, on which all points set to drop between now and then have already been removed, throws up more than a few surprises, with Mark Williams, Matthew Stevens, Graeme Dott and Mark Allen among those who as it stands, would have to qualify to play at the Crucible this year…

With the battle for tour places next season raging on, last month I posted an in-depth, player-by-player assessment of how those in the bottom half of the rankings were placed.

Since then however, we have seen two European Tour events completed, as well as the UK Championship and qualifiers for the German Masters and Haikou World Open tournaments. Most notably, the bar has risen significantly in terms of the European Order of Merit since my last update, the results of which are evident below.
