The 2012 UK Championship has been notable for its comebacks, but tonight there was to be no fairytale for Mark Davis as Leicester’s Mark Selby earned a comfortable 9-4 victory to not only book his place in a first UK Championship final, but also ensure that he will return to the top of the world rankings after this tournament, displacing Judd Trump.

IN REACHING the semi-finals of the UK Championship, Shaun Murphy survived two major scares.
The first was a dressing down from his coach, which ultimately helped him avoid the second – defeat to 17-year-old Belgian wonder kid Luca Brecel.

“I would have liked to have added a few more trophies to my trophy cabinet, of course I would, but having got the biggest two and lost in the final of the third biggest last year, I feel like I am on the right track and at 30 I have got the rest of my career to add to it.
“York’s a great place. I have spent a lot of time here personally but to come here for the second biggest tournament, a tournament I have won before, is great and I hope to be here for the week.”
