Afternoon Session

Selt keeps up good form

First to cross the winning line this afternoon was Matt Selt who for the second event in a row, has now won his first two qualifying matches to make round three. His latest victim was Ireland’s Joe Delaney who was unable to cope with him, going down 5-1 in under two hours. Selt faces Derby’s David Gilbert next will be hoping to do better than at the same stage in Northern Ireland tomorrow having lost his round three match there 5-0.

Li hangs on

Much closer however was to be the match involving 17 year old Li Hang from China who came through a close encounter with Ian Preece in the last match of the day. Having led for most of the match Hang did a great job to keep his composure and take a second win of the week. He now plays Marcus Campbell tomorrow.

Muldoon & Mehta march on

Soon to follow Selt was young Vincent Muldoon built who on his win yesterday with a quickfire 5-1 win over world number 62 Stuart Pettman. Like in his last match Vinnie made a brilliant start and never really looked back, moving into the third round of an event for the first time, earning himself a tie with Adrian Gunnell tomorrow afternoon.

Also through into the third round was India’s Aditya Mehta who beat David Morris 5-4 following the deciding frame. In what was quite a quick match considering that it went the distance, the highlight of the session was an excellent 140 break by Mehta which was not only the break of the week, but the biggest of his career. Next up for him is Judd Trump tomorrow.

Craigie crashes out

One youngster not to make it however was Newcastle’s Stephen Cragie who lost 5-4 to Mark Davis after having led for much of the match. There is no shame in that though as Davis is a very experienced pro who will have been favourite to win the match, but Craigie will be disappointed to have not quite seen it through. Still he gave him a good run for his money throughout and will be better for the experience. Davis now meets Andrew Higginson in round 3.
