Grand Prix to be staged at Kelvin Hall?

higgins10

With the calendar starting to take shape for next season now, one of the biggest issues still undecided was the venue of the Grand Prix, last staged in Glasgow at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre…

Because of a clash of dates however, it has been widely rumoured recently that the SECC is unavailable for 2009 and that World Snooker have been searching for a new venue, while looking to keep the tournament in Glasgow.

While not official however, it now seems that their hunt is at an end and that John Higgins will defend his title at the Kelvin Hall, again in Glasgow. This has been reported both on Global Snooker Twitter by Janie Watkins, as well as a poster over at TSF who has said that he rang the venue this morning and that they have confirmed it.

Does anyone have any knowledge of the venue? Will it be suitable if this news is accurate? Hopefully the problem encountered last season at the SECC with the noise from helicopters landing nearby will not be there this time around!

Aha, I had seen the question but didn’t see whether he had confirmed it, just that it would not be at the SECC again.

When was snooker last there out of interest?

id be guessing what year, sorry Matt.

The Secc is great for the most part with plenty of room and a good players lounge too, but i think the Kelvin Hall will be a suitable replacement.

If you want to check further then perhaps ask any officials/refs you know, as they should know by now.

No problem, was only out of interest.

Sounds like it will work well then, from what I remember the crowds were pretty good last year so that shouldn’t change.

Good suggestion on checking with the refs, though I do tend to trust Global Snooker with this sort of thing. Hopefully it will be announced at some point soon with the ticket details and everything…
