Ricky will be very happy. Wenbo will be very happy and Ronnie and John clearly confident having got 2 of the outsiders!

Ebdon – Wenbo yet again. Poor Peter must be sick of that draw, although in a TV match, I think Peter is better on bigger occasions, but given Liang has beat him convincingly recently, he’ll start that big favourite.
I’ll be interested to see how Mark Joyce performs after getting a sports psychologist which in the short term at least has done very well. John Higgins is clearly a tough prospect, but that could be one to watch as he should be inspired by that draw.
Ryan Day against Jamie Cope should be a fluent match and although in terms of ranking Hendry vs Selt looks ok, Selt has played well this season, so that could be a tough 1st round.
Fancy Robert Milkins to beat Carter. McCulloch has just beat Swail so Mark Allen will be out for revenge for Norn Iron and will kickstart his season by beating Ian McCulloch.

A couple of surprises in the last 32 of the Grand Prix. Mark Davis held his nerve to claim a 5-4 victory over Marco Fu, while Ken Doherty had an excellent 5-3 win against Mark Selby. The “Jester From Leicester” didn’t produce his usual fluency, but that’s not taking anything away from a resurgent Doherty who, in the early part of the match, looked his old confident self, while Davis showed what a tough competitor he is in a close contest.
John Higgins and Joe Perry both recorded wins over Mark Joyce and Marcus Campbell respectively.
