It has been nine years since Willie Thorne won the World Senior Masters in 2000 but the long wait for a further tournament will soon be over thanks to the ‘Legends of Snooker’ event which will be staged in Glenrothes next weekend by 110sport…
The ‘Legends of Snooker’ event will take place next weekend with the quarter-finals on Saturday, followed by the semi-finals and final on Sunday.
The field is an interesting one, a good mix of current tour players such as Stephen Hendry and Ken Doherty, as well as famous faces from the past such as Alex Higgins and Cliff Thorburn who meet in Saturday’s final last 8 match. 1991 world champion John Parrott was originally scheduled to take part but has since been replaced by fellow veteran Nigel Bond.
The draw in full is as follows:
Quarter-Finals:
2:00pm – Ken Doherty v Tony Knowles
4:00pm – Nigel Bond v Jimmy White
6:00pm – Stephen Hendry v Tony Drago
8:00pm – Alex Higgins v Cliff Thorburn
Although 110sport.tv will not be broadcasting the matches live, apparently they will be making the matches available to watch during the next month on their website, though it is not clear whether this will be a free service or whether we will have to pay.
If you cannot wait that long however and live in the area then tickets are available from the Box Office at Rothes Hall.
Finally there are also a couple of videos available on 110sport.tv previewing the event, one here where Willie Thorne considers the field and one here where the likes of Neil Robertson and Ian McCulloch discuss who they looked up to when they were younger.

Too bad they don’t show it live. “Extended highlights” are promissed, but I won’t be surprised if it turns out in a form of 30-minutes review of the whole tournament.

I think this event would be better if it was all retired players, the line-up could have been:
Cliff Thorburn
Alex Higgins
Mike Hallett
Dennis Taylor
Willie Thorne
Joe Johnson
Terry Griffiths
Ray Reardon

It’s a good point, though I guess that the standard would have been pretty poor and maybe 110sport felt that it might put people off from watching in the future. At least with a few current players in then we should see some big breaks and see a few old favourites back in action.
I mean Ray Reardon is 77 now and I can’t imagine (correct me if I am wrong), that he has played in a while. Willie Thorne says in the 110sport video that I linked to that his eyesight isn’t what it was and Terry Griffiths wasn’t well earlier in the year if I remember rightly.
