Higgins backs one-day world final

With the climax of the snooker season drawing ever closer, provisional world number one John Higgins has been discussing amongst other things, the possibility of the World Championship final becoming a one-day event…

While I am always open to new ideas, when it comes to the World Championship I would not like too much to change as I have always felt that the tournament works well.

As a fan of the longer matches that it offers in particular, I would certainly loathe to see the matches reduced in length at all, indeed I would probably like to see more tournaments with an extended format and not less!

Any thoughts?

I am of the opinion the WC should stay as a 2 day world final event. For the other tournaments a 1 day final is allright though i am not in favour of a best of 17. think they should be the best of 19. I am not sure, but the uk open used to have a 2 day final. the one day final nowadays looks a bit odd as the other rounds and semifinals are best of 17 where the final is a best of 19. Difference between the final and other rounds is too small

    I totally agree with Paul.

When it comes to new ideas for snooker, I almost always disagree with John Higgins. His ideas seem strange to me. Why change something that has been so successful over the years?

The format for the World Champs should not be altered in any way.

The UK should return to a best of 33 final as in the days up to 1992.

The British Open should be re-instated as a ranking tournament.

The pros and the fans need more snooker not less!

  6. Dez says:

Sorry, I meant a best of 31 final for the UK (couldn’t count).
