John Newton Passes Away

Sad news today as John Newton, referee at the 2000 World Championship final between Mark Williams and Matthew Stevens, has passed away this morning.

John also officiated three professional maximum breaks, that of Ronnie O’Sullivan at the 1999 Welsh Open, as well as two by Stephen Hendry, at the British Open and UK Championship tournaments later that year.

    Sad loss, was a nice man. Played snooker in same team as him, loved hearing his stories, will be missed. A genuine nice guy
