Made live on Talk Sport just moments ago, the draw for the 2013 Snooker Shoot Out can be viewed below, with Barry Hawkins looking to successfully defend the title that he won in January…

While there was an uncomfortable moment for those in the studio as presenter Andy Goldstein mistakenly called out ball number 25, as number 26, causing a delay while the matter was clarified, the draw was completed and sees Hawkins open his defence with a match against six-times world champion Steve Davis.
Interestingly, the draw is as notable for its absentees as it is for those involved, with Judd Trump, Neil Robertson, Ronnie O’Sullivan, Stephen Lee, Stephen Hendry, Joe Jogia, Marco Fu, James Wattana and Pankaj Advani all electing not to enter the tournament for various reasons, despite being eligible.
Of course many of those omissions are to be expected, but it is a blow to the tournament for Judd Trump and Neil Robertson not to be present, indeed they were of course our two finalists at the International Championship last week and could well finish this season ranked 1-2.

Anything known about the “various reasons” not to enter? ROS, Lee, Jogia, Hendry were expectable, but why are the other players missing?
Also, congratulations for the fastest blog post in the history of snooker
Completely unrelated: I saw your comment re: the PTC-Finals qualifying criteria on Twitter – in my view not quite confusing, but expressed very complicatedly. Still I wonder what will happen after Bingham won two APTCs and Lee might not qualify despite winning one. Two more APTC places for Cao and Xiao (next two on the list)? Would be the most logical answer in my view, but I don’t find a definite answer in the official criteria.

I think what I meant was more the practical application of it will be confusing, obviously not helped by Bingham winning two and Lee being suspended. We shall see, wouldn’t like to second guess.

Xiao had been replaced by Li Hang

Li Hang should be in the Grand Final anyway; Xiao could only replace Lee/Bingham

Two other players I miss in this format are Brecel & Drago. Could do without the Harold-Lawler match, though I enjoy watching Rod more than I used to, and Dave’s a lovely guy.

At least they all get the same timespan to entertain!
Also qualified by rankings so they deserve their place.

If anyone else withdraws Brecel will presumably be offered a place – he’s next in the rankings. (Last season they brought in a replacement for Jogia instead of giving his opponent a walk-over so I guess the same will happen if anyone pulls out this time.)

real shame not too see judd and neil playing, those are 2 of the players which always brings the spark to a tournament. and of course the absence of o’sullivan in any tournament is a massive blow, especially in this, where the audience can get involved. however there are enough top players there like selby, higgins, allen etc to make it exciting!
