Maiden Max For Day

Day1

Congratulations to world number 20 Ryan Day, who earlier today made his first professional 147 break at the AT2 event in Haining, China.

Coming during the final frame of his 4-1 win against Cao Yupeng, the maximum represents the 107th in snooker history and following an announcement from World Snooker after the break, earns him a £1,000 bonus, provided that the break is not equalled during the final day of the tournament tomorrow.

The break was refereed by local ref Zhou Bingfeng, while Ryan would subsequently go on to make it to the quarter-finals of the event, before losing out to rising star Oliver Lines.

Asian Tour 2 Cancelled

Following discussions with the promoter of 2014 Asian Tour event two, World Snooker announces that unfortunately the event will not take place, due to a range of issues that cannot be resolved within the short timescale. The tournament was due to run from August 26 to 30.

We continue to work alongside the China Billiards and Snooker Association and our partners and promoters to find new opportunities for even more tournaments in the region.

Bingham Wins AT4, Grand Finals Seedings Set

Bingham2

Congratulations to Stuart Bingham who has today defeated Liang Wenbo 4-1 to win the Asian Tour Four event in Dongguan, his first title of the season and third Asian Tour event overall since their introduction in 2012. The victory means that Stuart will take home the top prize of £10,000, as well as a special gift from the sponsors as he has tweeted earlier today.

Aside from Stuart’s success, the end of this end also marks the end of the 2013/14 Asian Tour, now confirming who has qualified for the Players Championship Grand Finals later this month and which four player will earn a tour-year tour card from the list.

You can view my thoughts on the event following the publication of the draw last week here, while the scores and Asian Tour Order of Merit can be found at snookerorg.

Meanwhile, the seventh and final regular group of the Championship League came to a conclusion today, Ryan Day defeating Andrew Higginson 3-0 to join Martin Gould, Shaun Murphy, Stephen Maguire, Judd Trump, Joe Perry and Ricky Walden in the winner’s group, which starts tomorrow.
