Though Mark Selby’s World Championship victory may remain fresh in the memory, already amateur snooker has moved on at least with the start of the 2014 Q School, while the professionals will be back in action before the end of the month with the first qualifiers of the 2014/15 season in Gloucester.

Today sees one of the busiest days of the World Championship, as all four quarter-finals are played to a conclusion here in Sheffield. Already through to the last four is Mark Selby, while Ronnie O’Sullivan, Barry Hawkins and Judd Trump are currently favourites to join him…
While there might have been a lack of wifi in the media centre yesterday, there was no lack of drama out in the arena as the tournament saw another two deciding frame finishes, including a stunning 10-9 victory for Gloucester’s Michael Wasley against one of the pre-tournament favourites, Ding Junhui.

The three day gap between the conclusion of the final qualifying round for this year’s World Championship and the start of play tomorrow morning at the Crucible makes the job of previewing the tournament ever-more difficult.
But this year I am hopeful that I have been able to do the tournament justice, thanks to the help of former world number 3, turned highly respected snooker analyst Neal Foulds, who spoke with me this morning to help preview each of the 16 opening round matches and offer his thoughts as to who will be lifting the famous trophy on 5th May 2014…
The upcoming 2014 World Championship marks not only the 38th time that the tournament will be staged at the iconic Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, but on a personal level, the tenth consecutive year that I will have been lucky enough to have been there to see snooker history made in person.
