The three day gap between the conclusion of the final qualifying round for this year’s World Championship and the start of play tomorrow morning at the Crucible makes the job of previewing the tournament ever-more difficult.
But this year I am hopeful that I have been able to do the tournament justice, thanks to the help of former world number 3, turned highly respected snooker analyst Neal Foulds, who spoke with me this morning to help preview each of the 16 opening round matches and offer his thoughts as to who will be lifting the famous trophy on 5th May 2014…
Tuesday at Ponds Forge saw the confirmation of the first eight qualifiers for the venue stages of this year’s World Championship and there were (on paper at least), some real surprises, with the likes of former champions Graeme Dott and Mark Williams crashing out.

Since professional snooker ‘hit’ Twitter two or three years ago, it has given us a fascinating insight into the personalities of a number of the players, officials and other characters involved in the game.
What is interesting to me is the different ways that players use Twitter, for example you have the banter of Mark Williams, the forthright opinions of Michael Holt, the wit of Steve Davis, the insight of Alan McManus and the interaction of Shaun Murphy, to mention just a few.

Four days down in Bendigo and the line-up for the quarter-finals of the 2013 Australian Goldfields Open was confirmed earlier, as Shaun Murphy became the highest seeded player to exit the tournament so far…
Having crashed out of the Wuxi Classic in the opening round, for a while it looked as though reigning UK and Masters champion Mark Selby would again lose his opening match at a full-ranking event to Preston’s Ian Burns today, but he eventually came back to avoid defeat.
