Congratulations to returning world number one Mark Selby, who has tonight defeated Shaun Murphy 10-6 to lift the biggest title of his career so far, the 2012 UK Championship in York. As well as the trophy, Mark takes home the first prize of £125,000 and heads into 2013 with a line drawn firmly under what has at times been a difficult year.

The 2012 UK Championship has been notable for its comebacks, but tonight there was to be no fairytale for Mark Davis as Leicester’s Mark Selby earned a comfortable 9-4 victory to not only book his place in a first UK Championship final, but also ensure that he will return to the top of the world rankings after this tournament, displacing Judd Trump.

Mark Selby returned to world number one by making through to the final of the williamhill.com UK Championship and the tournament sponsors make the Jester 8/11 favourite to win the match.
Shaun Murphy, whose performance at the end of his match against Ali Carter was sensational is the 11/10 slight outsider.
“The whole week has been absolutely fantastic and we definitely have a final worthy of the action that has preceded it,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
